Mr. Syed Almas Kabir, President

Syed Almas Kabir, Chief Executive Officer of MetroNet Bangladesh Limited, joined Concord Engineers & Constructions Limited as a Systems Analyst after graduating from Jadavpur University, India in Electrical Engineering in 1989. Almas went to the US to pursue his Masters degree the following year. After finishing his MS from New York University’s Polytechnic School of Engineering in 1992, he joined Radio Shack’s After Sales Service department as ‘Tandy Certified Computer Sales Specialist’, and oversaw the New York – New Jersey – Connecticut tri-state area. In 1994, Syed Almas Kabir joined Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) as Assistant Professor shortly after his return from the USA. Almas was additionally made responsible for Student Affairs, and was made the Director of the Computer Center. In recognition of Almas’ leadership ability and inter-personal skills, he was made the Registrar in-charge in January 2000. Syed Almas Kabir was also an adjunct faculty in National University and Northern University. In 2004, Almas joined City University as its Vice President to give shape to the newly formed institution. He also worked as the Director of Career & Professional Development at North South University before taking up the responsibility of running the nation’s first fiber-optic based data-communication company MetroNet.
Syed Almas Kabir took MetroNet to new heights in last 10 years establishing it as the most trusted IT company in the country offering Intranet, Internet, IP Telephony & other IT Enabled Services. MetroNet offers its services to almost all banks, Content Providers, Telephone companies, and other government & non-government agencies & organizations.

Syed Almas Kabir is actively involved with many other social and professional bodies. Before being elected as Senior Vice President of the Executive Council of Bangladesh Association of Software & Information Services (BASIS), he had been elected as its Vice President and also as Treasurer. Almas was the Vice President of Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB). He is also the Honorary Treasurer of Bangladesh-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce & industry (BMCCI). He is the Convener of the Standing Committee on Telecom, ICT & Intellectual Property Rights of DCCI. Almas was unanimously elected as the National President of Bangladesh under Junior Chamber International (JCI) in 2003, and was later elected as the International Councilor of the Asia-Pacific Development Council (APDC) of JCI in 2006 overseeing the activities of Indonesia. Almas served as Acting President (2004-2006) and was subsequently elected as the President of St. Joseph Old Boys’ Association (SJOBA) for the terms of 2004-2006 & 2006-2008. Syed Almas Kabir was the founder of Association of IUB Alumni (AiA) and has been the Advisor since its inception. Almas is also the Joint Secretary of America-Bangladesh Friendship Society with its headquarters in New York, USA of which Congressman Joseph Crowley is the Chief Patron. Syed Almas Kabir was awarded by the State Department of the US Government as Bangladesh’s representative in the International Visitors’ Leadership Program (IVLP). He was the Team Leader of the Bangladesh Delegation to CeBIT 2013, 2014 & 2015 in Hannover, Germany and presented keynote papers on Outsourcing Opportunities in Bangladesh in Germany and Denmark.
As an Internationally acclaimed professional trainer, Syed Almas Kabir has offered leadership training courses in India, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Macau apart from Bangladesh. He is also a graduate of the 15th JCI Academy held in Fujisawa, Japan and was awarded the coveted Global Networker pin. Almas led several professional & business delegations to India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Germany, Philippines, Taiwan, Denmark, Austria and UK.

Mr. Imtiaj Rasul, Secretary

Imtiaj Rasul, A graduate of political Science (Option- International studies) and a minor of Sociology   graduated from Winona State University (WSU), Spring, 1996 . During his education at WSU, Minnesota, Mr. Rasul has been very active in student activities on campus and also at the state level {Minnesota State University Student Association (MSUSA)}. Mr Rasul served as the Assistant Cultural diversity representative for WSU  Student Senate at MSUSA and also was a member of the Task force for cultural diversity of the city of Winona. He was President of Bangladesh Student Forum 1994-95.He was recognized in Who’s who among the American Universities and Colleges for outstanding merit and leadership role at WSU, 1994-95. . In 2005 he has also completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Organized Self Help Housing, Lund University, Sweden.

After graduating and coming back from the United States, he worked for the Program for Research on Poverty Alleviation, (PRPA) Grameen Trust (sister concern of Grameen Bank – Nobel peace prize winner of 2006), Research Initiatives, Bangladesh (RIB), MRC Mode Ltd. Grambangla Unnayan Committee (GUC), BRAC Development Institute (BDI), BRAC University,  American Alumni Association (AAA) and Data Search.

In addition to his professional activities Mr Rasul lectures, presents papers on Development and poverty issues   in many reputed universities in Bangladesh, India, UK and USA on issues related to poverty, micro credit and low cost housing. Mr Rasul is involved with many non profit organizations as a board member and also trying to set up people oriented business ventures locally and globally.

Engineer Shafiul Alam Talukder, Treasurer

Md. Shafiul Alam Talukder , a graduate in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from BUET and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Texas at San Antonio(UTSA),1993. During his education at University of Texas Mr. Shafiul had worked as an active member in International Student Association at UTSA.

Mr. Shafiul is the CEO of Green Enterprise, Green Energy Limited and Green Battery Limited. He is an agent of following Reputed International companies, AIROD (Aircraft Inspection Repair and Overhaul Depot) Sendirian Berhad, Malaysia (Lockheed Martin Certified MRO), Airod Techno Power (ATP) Sdn Bhd, Malaysia, Sister concern of NADI(National Aeronautical Defense Industries)Malaysia.
Mr. Shafiul is Life Fellow of IEB (Institute of Engineers, Bangladesh). He is involved in many important committees in IEB as a Chairman, Co-chairman and Member Secretary. He has represented IEB in many International Engineers Conventions and Conferences at Nepal, Sri Lanka, India, Russia, etc. Moreover Mr. Shafiul visited more than twenty countries around the world. Mr. Shafiul is also Life Member of Buet Alumnai Association (ABUETA), BUET 89 CLUB, ULESA ( University Laboratory School Ex-Student Association) and Dhaka College Ex-Student Association.
He has worked as the first Joint Secretary of Association of Engineers Bangladesh (AEB) and has worked as the Secretary General of Association of Engineers Bangladesh for three years. Now he is Vice President of AEB. He is life and founder member of AAA ( American Alumnai Association ), life member of Army Golf Club, Dhanmondi Club Limited, Barisal Club Limited, Barisal, Bangla Academy, Jamalpur Shomity and Member of Indenting Association of Bangladesh.

Ms. Moushumi Shabnam, EC Member

Moushumi Shabnam grew up in Dhaka in a family of academics where both her parents were professors. Since May 2010, she is working full time as a Senior Lecturer at North South University at the Department of Political Science and Sociology where she teaches various courses in anthropology and sociology. Her research interests include Islam, identity, gender, migration, South Asia, religious social movements, transnational movements, and transnationalism. Moushumi is also trained in the field of Human Rights, Conflict Resolution, and Project Management from the Eastern Mennonite University’s Summer Peacebuilding Institute, Virginia.

Moushumi completed her SSC from Agrani Balika Biddyalaya and HSC from Holy Cross College. She then entered Dhaka University to study Public Administration but stayed there only for few months before embarking on a journey in 1995 to get an undergraduate degree in cultural anthropology, a subject which till today remains very close to her heart. She completed her BA degree in Anthropology (major) and International Relations (minor) from the Minnesota State University, USA in 2000. After working in different fields in California, Moushumi started to pursue her PhD at the esteemed Maxwell School, Syracuse University, New York, with full scholarship along with a Teaching Assistantship. She received her MA degree along the way in Cultural Anthropology from Syracuse University with intensive focus on South Asia and Gender Studies. She has been a PhD candidate and became an ABD after completing all her PhD course works. After taking a few years break, she is currently working on her dissertation which focuses on the impact of 9/11 in the process of constructing people’s religious identity and citizenship among the second generation Bangladeshi Muslim community living in New York, US.

Mr. Ashik Imran Khan, EC Member

Ashik Imran Khan is a Sr. lecturer in School of Business and Economics at North South University, Bangladesh. He has finished his Bsc in Industrial Arts from University of Dhaka and Msc at Applied Mathematics from University of Dhaka. Later on he has finished his Masters in Business Administration & Management Information System from University of Texas A&M, USA.

His field of research includes:

World Financial Crisis & Global Business Challenges’ the second International conference of GBMF jointly organized by dept of finance and GBMF USA.

Are the Emerging capital markets weak form efficient? Evidence from the model of the Dhaka stock exchange international conference on knowledge globalization 2010 jointly organized by north south University & Suffolk University.

He got awarded “Maya Housing Scholarship” for academic excellence from Graduate school TAMU (Texas A & M University) commerce. Ashik Imran khan was actively involved as Assistant General Secretary for Bangladesh Students Association (BSA) at TAMU commerce. He was dedicated Member of Leo Club, Bangladesh. He served as dedicated member for chapter JCI (Junior Chamber International) Dhaka Cosmopolitan in his recent past and he was the corporate liaison for North South University Career Fair & Club Fair and he is Faculty Advisor of North South University MIS Club. He participated National & International Seminars and workshops. He is also working for Youth Development under CORE, a non-profit organization and now actively working for AAA (American Alumni Association)

Mr. Sadrullah A. Mansur Ex-officio, Executive Council

Mr. Sadrullah A. Mansur is the Chief Executive Officer of NMCI (Bangladesh) Ltd.(a subsidiary of National Marine Consultants Inc., USA). Before being promoted to ChiefExecutive Officer, he held the position of Chief Administrative Officer for two years and Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for seven more years at NMCI (Bangladesh) Ltd. He joined NMCI Group (USA) in early 2002, and was assigned in Beijing, China as the Chief Representative of NMCI Group (Beijing) Ltd. In his career spanning over 14 years at NMCI, he held many important positions at different subsidiaries of the parent company, National Marine Consultants Inc. (USA), at home and abroad.

Mr. Mansur is a seasoned professional with 18 years of rich experience in Business Management. He has successfully lead cross-cultural professionals towards the growth of NMCI. Prior to joining NMCI, he was the Sales & Marketing Executive of Arena Multimedia (a concern of APTECH Worldwide). At the outset of his career, he also worked in an NGO and at LG Electronics India Ltd.

Mr. Mansur has completed Bachelor in Business Management in India and Masters in Business Administration in Dhaka. He also completed a course on ISO certification and has been qualified as a Provisional Auditor. He has participated in many professional trainings at home and abroad. He has experience of working in global settings, in countries like the United States, China, India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangkok, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, etc.

Mr. Mansur is also the Executive Director of National Development Initiative, Chief Operations Officer of Atria Enterprises Ltd., Chief Operations Officer of The Carter Academy and Proprietor of National Marine Consultants Bangladesh. He is actively involved with different associations like Overseas Advisory Security Council – United States Department of State – Bureau of Diplomatic Security, Dhaka Chamber of Commerce, Indian Chamber of Commerce, and Federation of NGOs in Bangladesh. He is a member of the Executive Committee of American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh and was actively involved with AmCham, India and AmCham, China while he was stationed in these countries.

Mr. Mansur is an excellent guitar player who has been playing since 1988. He played guitar in numerous renowned bands in Bangladesh and used to perform on stage, at home and abroad. Presently, he is involved with a musical band called Nova, a well-reputed rock band in Bangladesh, where he plays bass guitar.

Ms. Ann Barrows McConnell Ex-officio, Executive Council

Ms. Ann Barrows McConnell, is the Director of The American Center, the Public Affairs Section of the Embassy of the United States of America, Dhaka (formerly USIS), she seeks to promote improved mutual understanding between the United States and Bangladesh and to provide free and open access to information about the U.S. to Bangladesh.
